LITTLE STORIES. Watercolors and oils
24 March 2023 @ 10:00 - 30 April 2023 @ 19:00
The exhibition Little Stories presents a selection of works by Russian Post-Impressionist painters, with a particular focus on Marina Uspenskaya (Moscow 1925 – 2007) and Klara Vlasova (Moscow 1926 – 2022). A nucleus of over twenty of their medium-small sized works, whose subjects tell the essence of childhood. These are mainly studies inspired by the daily life of children, watercolors and oils that portray them intent on reading in a meadow, jumping rope, playing ball or skating, always immersed in a carefree atmosphere. The two artists, Uspenskaya with the skilful use of bright colors, Vlasova with the dynamism of fast brushstrokes, capture the naturalness and innocence of familiar and usual activities, evoking a sense of joyful serenity and highlighting the beauty of simplicity. The works of the other painters on display, including Nadezhda Vorobieva, Igor Smekalov, Evsey Reshin, Yakov Kozlov, enrich this pictorial “narrative” with subjects that revolve around the theme of childhood, whose interpretation reveals its most poetic aspects, arousing in the viewer a sense of tender lightness.
