WHEN COLOR BECOMES LIGHT
6 December 2024 @ 10:00 - 2 March 2025 @ 12:30
EXTENDED TO MARCH 2, 2025
The intimate dialogue between light and color, like two forces that feed each other, is the leitmotif of the exhibition. In figurative painting, in particular, luminosity is not only a technical component, but a powerful tool of expression that allows color to evolve, creating a unique atmosphere and an intimate relationship between the work and the observer. For this reason, for each artist, brightness takes on a different value, it is the means by which to give life to the emotional texture of the world they want to represent. Among the main interpreters of this “magic” are the exponents of Russian post-impressionism of the Moscow and St. Petersburg schools, for whom light is “alive” by definition, sculpts volumes, modulates colors, transports the observer into a world that is not only visible, but perceived emotionally. Among others Georgij Moroz (1937 – 2015), with his explosive colors and full of luminous energy, Dmitrij Kosmin (1925 – 2003), with a highly suggestive and symbolic dawn, and Piotr Stolerenko (1925 – 2018), whose Small courtyard is an evocative masterpiece. Also on display is the French Henry Maurice Cahours (1889 – 1974), who was defined by critics as “the poet of light” for his ability to play with nuances, to create atmospheres made of subtle harmonies, and to stop light, imperceptibly, on canvas. The light of the Danish Birgitte Lykke Madsen (1960) is brilliant, the one of the interiors of the Italian Luisa Albert (1969) is suffused, the one of the Lombard Luigi Bracchi (1892 – 1978) is clear and dripping color. In a continuous exchange between the artist, his painting and his audience, light guides the gaze, reveals or hides details, accompanies the eye to the discovery of the work, creates a figurative climate that can be quiet or vibrant, but always strongly evocative, thus telling different stories.
When color becomes light, painting is no longer just a visual art, but an emotional experience that transcends the mere representation of reality, becoming a journey through space and time, an interpretation of the world filtered through the creative soul of the artist.
