BORIS LAVRENKO
14 March 2015 @ 00:00
Boris Lavrenko was born in Rostov in 1920 and died in St. Petersburg, the city where he studied, lived and worked, in 2001. Professor of painting and composition at the Repin Art Institute since 1953, his career is full of prestigious awards and he is considered one of the most important representatives of Russian post-impressionism. The childhood spent in contact with nature, the open spaces and the Don River, have a strong influence on his artistic growth. Lavrenko, in fact, finds in landscape the right subject for compositional research and chromatic experimentation, even if within a solid figuration style. His works, especially those animated by figures involved in normal activities, such as reading, walking or playing football, convey spontaneity and joy of life. Lavrenko is a versatile artist, with the maturity to recognize in any subject the “dignity” of being portrayed, so its themes range from city views, with their monuments, to the previously mentioned landscapes, from the everyday objects of his intense still lifes, to the lively or quiet genre scenes. His works can be defined as a kaleidoscope of impressions, a colorful mosaic of life.
