RUSSIAN POST IMPRESSIONISTS AT PALAZZO LOMELLINI, CARMAGNOLA

The Councilorship of Culture of the Municipality of Carmagnola presents the exhibition “Russian Post Impressionists”, curated by the Pirra Art Gallery, at Palazzo Lomellini from August, 31 to October, 14 2018.
More than forty works, from the second post-war period to the end of the century, of some of the main representatives of the schools of Moscow and St. Petersburg: Olga Bogaevskaja, Maya Kopitzeva, Dmitrij Kosmin, Boris Lavrenko, Georgij Moroz, Gleb Savinov, Aleksej and Sergej Tkacev, Nadezhda Vorobieva and Vjacheslav Zabelin.
These artists, born between the ’20s and’ 30s of the XXth century, have worked in a historical period that had virtually erased relations with the West, but were able to establish a sort of temporal bridge between the pre-revolutionary age and contemporaneity, a sort of “protected reserve” of figurative painting. These artists are representative of an art coming from a solid academic base, but that has developed in a language that could easily be defined as purely impressionist and post-impressionist. They have different personalities, but similar pictorial inspirations, expressed and elaborated according to individual inclinations. They all have well established careers, official acknowledgments and works in prestigious museums both at home and abroad, but they also have an artistic production parallel to the art of the regime, far from political subjects. The paintings in exhibition, in fact, have in common the extraneousness to the themes of propaganda and the predilection for “simple” subjects inspired by everyday life and their land: interiors, landscapes and still lifes of great emotional suggestion.
