Alessio Nebbia. Enchantments

October 23 @ 17:00 - November 29 @ 12:30

A reserved figure deeply rooted in the Alpine culture of the Twentieth century, Alessio Nebbia built his artistic research around the representation of landscapes. Born in Piedmont in 1896 and passionate about the mountains, particularly in Valle d’Aosta, he moved to Courmayeur in 1925. A versatile personality, his technical training initially directed him toward photography and the depiction of mountain ranges – which he knows well from an Alpine perspective – creating highly precise maps and models. From the 1940s onward, painting, in which he successfully combines technical aspects with poetic ones, became his primary interest.
While fascinated by water landscapes (Cinque Terre, Ischia, Ponza, Lake Geneva) as well as the hills of Piedmont, Nebbia’s preference for mountains, in all their aspects, from villages to high peaks, is absolutely selective.
In his work, descriptive precision and poetic tension coexist, allied in achieving a sublimation of reality that goes beyond mere realistic balance. His remarkable technical mastery does not simply culminate in a faithful rendering of natural data but becomes the tool through which the landscape, especially in snowy views (After the Snowfall, Snowfall in Valmalenco), opens up to a suspended dimension, often close to the metaphysical. It is precisely in this threshold between observation and vision that the uniqueness of Alessio Nebbia’s painting is defined. The soft, candidly sophisticated material, the muted colors, the balance within the composition, and the evocative, almost spiritual dimension, especially in the cycle of works dedicated to high mountains (Nocturne, Dawn on Mont Blanc, Cervino), contribute to revealing the profound resonance with the artist’s sensibility.
The exhibition, accompanied by a catalog, invites visitors to rediscover Alessio Nebbia as a sensitive and rigorous interpreter of the landscape through 24 oil paintings, capable of transforming the observation of nature into an intimate and contemplative experience.
