Henry BIVA (1848-1928)

Henri Biva studied under Alexandre Nozal, Leon Tanzi, William Adolphe Bouguereau, Benjamin Constant and Jules Lefebvre. It was the influence of Constant and Lefebvre that led to the controlled style of Henri Biva. The Academy had very strict attitudes toward painting; this rigid attitude divided the Academic painters and the Impressionists. He also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, notably in 1900, 1903, 1904 and 1905. For his landscapes and flowers he was awarded many times, particularly he was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur in 1900.
